Boats in the Barrio, 1978 [excerpt]

Beginning in 1962, the Austin Aqua Festival was held on Town Lake, centered at Festival Beach. The large crowds that the festival brought and the incredible noise of the drag boat races heavily impacted the predominantly minority residents of the neighborhood around the festival location. This clip is the introduction to a 28 minute long documentary about the festival and activist's (including Paul Hernandez and the Brown Berets) work to convince the city to move the festival.

The Austin Files are the vertical files of the Austin History Center. The collection consists of thousands of files maintained by AHC staff that cover many topics about Austin and Travis County.
